The majority of new students receive letters of acceptance in April for the following school year. However, St. Mel School does accept students in grades TK through Eight throughout the school year if the applicant meets the admission criteria and the classroom has openings for new students.
The following is required to complete the enrollment process
These meetings are for prospective parents who are considering a Catholic education for their children entering grades TK through Eight grade at St. Mel School. Typically Prospective Parent meetings occur in November, January, and March. The school principal with faculty members and parent representatives are available for questions and answers. Parents have an opportunity to go on a school tour and see the school in action, receive enrollment information, tuition information, learn about Student Learning Expectations and curriculum standards, student life, uniforms, before and after school care, etc. Specific dates and times are available on the school website or call the school office at 916-967-2814.
St. Mel School hosts its annual Open House on a Sunday in late January to kick off Catholic Schools Week. At this time, prospective and school families have the opportunity to learn about the school and its mission to provide a high-quality, values based education. Open House will occur after the 9:30 a.m. Mass. All classrooms are open including the Science Lab, the Technology Lab and the Extension Program. In addition, the school hosts an annual Book Fair and Bake Sale along with an Art Show highlighting student artwork that has been produced by the Art Docent Program.
St. Mel School begins to accept applications for the following school year in December by filling out the New Family Registration Form. Please contact our school secretary, Jane Lumsargis, at office@stmelschool.org or (916) 967-2814 to request a New Family Registration Form.
All students applying for admissions to St. Mel School are evaluated to verify appropriate grade placement. Many applicants take advantage of our School Visitation Days.
St. Mel School makes every effort to notify prospective students of their status of acceptance by late March.
St. Mel School sets aside one day during the first week of May for parents to turn in all registration forms and pay related fees. Many school organizations are available to answer questions about parent volunteer opportunities such as the annual School Auction fundraiser, Crab Feed, carpool greeters, uniforms, etc.
St. Mel School continues to accept applications from interested candidates for grades that still have openings for the fall.
